Mergenthaler Typeface
Mergenthaler is a typeface built from Bell Gothic and inspired from Bodoni. I wanted to make a typeface that was modern, fashionable, and elegant. I chose Bell Gothic because of the tall x-height which I believe emphasised the characteristic of elegancy. The name mergenthaler can from Mergenthaler Linotype Company — the company that Chauncey H. Griffith, the creator of Bell Gothic, worked at as head of typographic development when the font was created. Mergenthaler is also the last name of Ottar Mergenthaler who created the linotype machine.
These images help convey the feeling of modernity and elegancy. The posters demonstrates the ideal way the font is to be used.
